Procedures of Certification

for becoming a

Diplomate in Measurement

 

Introduction

 

The Institute for Objective Measurement, Inc. (IOM) is an administratively independent agency that prepares relevant standards and develops procedures designed to assess the competence of individuals who work in the general field of psychological and educational measurement. Persons who meet the academic and experiential requirements and who achieve acceptable performance standards on the performance assessment may earn certification as a Diplomate in Measurement (DM).

 

 

The Application Process

 

Requirements

To qualify for the certification process, applicants must possess the following:

 

!                   A current membership in the IOM

 

!                   A Master’s degree or higher in any academic area

 

!                   Two years of experience working with objective-measurement applications

 

!                   Two completed papers, reports, or articles in which the principles of objective measurement were used. (In-house publications, technical reports, published articles, books, monographs, and teaching materials qualify.)

 

 

 

Evidence of Eligibility

Applicants will be able to establish their eligibility for the certification procedure by meeting the currently-stated minimum requirements (listed above), by submitting a completed application, and by paying the fee. To verify that they meet the current requirements, applicants must provide the IOM with the appropriate documents (see below). When the IOM receives applicants’ documents, it will assess their eligibility. (Applicants must assume the responsibility for keeping the IOM informed of any changes that could affect their eligibility status.)

Required Documents

 

!                   A transcript from the college or university that conferred the applicants highest degree

 

!                   Two completed papers, reports, or articles that bear evidence of the principles of objective measurement being used (In-house publications, technical reports, published articles, books, monographs, and teaching materials qualify)

 

 

Other Required Items

 

!                   Evidence of at least two years of pertinent experience (a description of which should be provided on the application)

 

!                   A $150.00 application fee along with the completed application, which will remain valid for one year after being received by the IOM.

 

[All fees must be submitted by check or credit card (applicants should not send cash). Applicants should make their checks payable to the Institute for Objective Measurement. If they choose to use a credit card, they must provide the number, their expiration date, and their signature on the application. If, after sending in their application materials, persons applying should decide not to complete the requirements for certification, the IOM will provide the applicants with a refund of $50.00.]

 

Applicants should not attempt to submit any of their documentation, materials, or fees separately. They must be mailed ensemble in an envelope that is addressed to:
