On May 24th, 1997, we lost Prof. Dr. Eddy E.C.I. Roskam. He was active in Rasch measurement, participating in IOMW and AERA sessions. He presented an invited address to the SIG in 1993. His publications include "A new derivation of the Rasch model" (with P.G.W. Jansen, RMT 6:3 p.232.)
As a young researcher he went to the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, where he worked with Clyde H. Coombs and was influenced by Louis Guttman. Later his interest shifted to Item Response Theory and then to the integration of cognitive and mathematical psychology. He made the Katholieke Universiteit of Nijmegen into a leading center of cognitive and mathematical psychology. He co-founded the European Group of Mathematical Psychologists, and the European meetings of the Psychometric Society.
