If you want to compute empirical item characteristic curves, I recommend the program TESTGRAF which is described on the following web-page:
www.psych.mcgill.ca/faculty/ramsay/TestGraf.html
This program calculates empirical item characteristic curves as a function of the raw score on all items. The program is easy to use, well documented and free. I have found it useful in deciding how to proceed with data analysis. This program does not do Rasch modeling, but only data description. Nevertheless, Loge(R/(L-R)) usefully linearizes the raw score axis.
